The spread of the coronavirus and general concern about the situation are growing worldwide and particularly in Europe, which is home to some of the largest ports in the industry.

In this situation, the most important thing is to stay calm and follow the instructions of the health authorities at all times.

Despite concerns about the quickly changing nature of the coronavirus outbreak, which has forced a number of yacht shows from Singapore to Dubai to be postponed, brokers are keen to reassure charterers that a yacht can provide the safest holiday option.

Yachting places with higher risk.

At the moment, European sailing locations are most at risk, including Italy, France, Spain, and Greece. Italy is the sailing region with the highest number of coronavirus cases. Most of them are found in the north.

If you are a crew member based in one of the northern ports of the Ligurian Riviera that are closest to affected regions, we strongly recommend following the preventive measures issued by the local Italian authorities, especially when visiting local port cities.

After this period of lockdown and isolation, Italy will be safer and we will all be more aware and better prepared to face any eventuality.

In Italy we have the best Captains, the most experienced sailors and the best trained crews. The sea is our natural territory and boats our second home.

Safety recommendations for traveling and staying in European ports.

As many crew members prepare for the start of the Mediterranean summer season by traveling to one of the region’s ports to look for work, many crew members have asked if it is still safe to do so.

We advise all crew members staying in crew houses to follow the WHO’s personal hygiene and prevention advice. If you have the option of staying in individual accommodation, we recommend that you do so.

If you already have a position on board a ship within Europe and are planning to travel to your ship, we recommend that you contact your Captain or management company in advance to find out if it is absolutely necessary to travel at this time, specifically if your ship has its base on the Italian Riviera of Liguria.

This WHO document has been prepared based on the evidence currently available about Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission (human-to-human transmission via respiratory droplets or direct contact from an infected individual).
